Holly Hudson | amcecreativearts
Holly Hudson was born in a temperate rain forest in Southeast Alaska. Birthed into a family of artists on the edge of the North Pacific wilderness, she never wanted for art supplies or inspiration. Tide pools and mossy trees were her steadfast playmates. At a young age, she could be found studying art books, transfixed by classical European paintings as well as the bold black formlines and geometric shapes in the art of the Tlingit tribe from her homeland. Some of her earliest memories consist of the local Tlingit creation myths of shape-shifting entities that could be animal, plant, or human at will. This early exposure to various art forms and cultural stories served as a foundation for her curiosity of the world. She received her bachelor’s in fine art at Western Washington University in 1999. She then studied from 2002-2005 at the Aristides Classical Atelier in Seattle, WA. She graduated in 2010 with her Master of Fine Arts in painting from the New York Academy of Art where she was honored to be a Dedalus Foundation nominee and the recipient of the Parson’s School of Design Altos de Chavanne Artist Residency in the Dominican Republic. In 2012 she was awarded an artist residency at the Eden Rock Gallery, St. Barth’s, French West Indies. Holly has exhibited work nationally and internationally at such venues as The Museum of Northwest Art, The Seattle Art Fair, AMcE Creative Arts, Seattle, WA, and Smith and Vallee of Edison, WA. She lives and works in Bellingham, WA with her partner and daughter.
