The Armory Show 2026 - Booth F8 | TERN Gallery

TERN presents the work of two Bahamian women artists, Gio Swaby and Kachelle Knowles. In her threaded fabric portraits, Swaby explores her own identity and the intersections of Blackness and womanhood, while Knowles, by contrast, directs her gaze toward Bahamian men. Whereas Swaby treats physical identity as a positive force of connection and intimacy, Knowles seeks to unpack perceptions of Black men as “hard” through her soft graphite portraits, revealing an underlying vulnerability that challenges commonly misunderstood appearances. Uniting both artists is a strong sense of fashion and style; each pays close attention to pattern and dress as a means of expressing individuality and joy.
