For this year’s presentation at Untitled, TERN Gallery presents a selection of painters centring the human body, its presence in the landscape and how we reveal and expose ourselves within it. Each artist is accomplished in their chosen medium and together show the range of their dexterity as painters.Tessa Whitehead creates large- and small-scale oil paintings depicting longing and intimacy, where the foliage and home both conceal and protect her in eerie settings; Leasho Johnson continues both his “Anansi” series and his obscured portraits that deal with aspects of queer life in the Caribbean and the shape-shifting that take place to remain safe in these relationships; while Heino Schmid, through acrylic and charcoal, allows faces, identities, and postures to emerge from the paper.
